The 'DJ X-PLICIT' project was formed at the start of 1999. My goal, when I set out was to get as many people as possible listening to my music, and of course, to make some money! :o)
Well, DJ X-PLICIT hasn't really got much of a history yet. I've been writing music, since May '98, but only recently thought It good enough to release....hope you agree!!!
I started composing music when I got the May 1994 issue of recently discontinued magazine CU Amiga. On the floppy disc, was a program called OctaMED 4. I loaded it up, and was instantly hooked, I read through the guide, and was writing, 'funky tunes' in no time. I wasn't really even into music at that time. I had never bought a single tape, or CD, so my musical knowledge was not that great. Anyway, a couple of months later I bought, (still available) Amiga Format. On it was an updated version (v5)
"Great"! I thought. But it was not to be...April 1996 - The scene: Me, a screwdriver,
my Amiga lying in bits, and a 'snowstorm' on the tv screen. D'oh! My Amiga had died,
and gone to silicon heaven, just like Commodore had, a few months earlier. I was left
computer-less, notes,riffs,and rhythms building up inside me...(actually I had
completely forgotton about OctaMED by this stage) 7 Long months past. I had given up
all hope. And then, one Saturday afternoon I was informed that we were "going to look
at some computers" The next day it was of to the store, being told by the spotty
salesman, that this Packard Bell P120 with 8Mb of RAM was "super-fast" etc. I
foolishly fell for it. I wasn't really bothered anyway...all I wanted was a computer.
Unfortunately, it didn't have a modem.
So, we skip forward 1 year, and 2 months, and find ourselves in January 1998. I had
a modem and was now connected to the internet. I was now, really into music, but had
completely forgotton about OctaMED. 3 Months later, when brainstorming for things
to type into Yahoo! I remembered my once prized posession. o-c-t-a-m-e-d. It came up
with the official site, and I downloaded the beta program. I didn't find it as good
as the original, but It was still great. I produced hit, after hit...until I
realised that they were actually crap. So I set off in search of an alternative. It
was a tear-jerking moment...leaving OctaMED again. But it had to be done. So, I
found a program called Fast Tracker 2. It took me a long time to get to grips with
it, but i'm glad I did, because I think it's great now. So...present day (1999) I've
been using Fast Tracker 2 for about 5 months.
