Shakespace has just released their self titled, debut CD on No-Phase Records. It chronicles the studio sessions undertaken over the last two years in Roanoke,Virginia and Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
The group resides in the BlueRidge region of Virginia, yet it's influences are diverse and cosmopolitan. Formed in 1996, Shakespace has evolved through a series of multimedia art shows known as No-Phase.
With the band's use of vintage synthesizers, heavy guitars, and samplers, they strive for both experimentalism, and heavy melodic feel simultaneously. Fluidic, female vocals are counter pointed by male glam/goth vox.
Musically, textures play a very important role in Shakespace's work; both live and in the studio. Group members switch between keyboards, guitars, basses, and vocals while maintaining a cohesive sound throughout.
